Job Title: Applications Programmer/Analyst Associate/Intermediate
Job Location: University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
Full time, 40.00/week
Salary: minimum $42,000/year, commensurate with skill and experience

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Biomedical data integration and web function development. Determine system requirements with users. Assess alternative problem solutions. Perform detailed analysis and design of new systems and modify the design and function of existing systems, including data and storage structures, communications requirements and specialized language requirements. Prepare review and revise detailed written specification and documentation for complex programs. Select appropriate tools for program development. Write and modify applications in SQL, C/C++, Java, Perl, or other computer languages. Review programs for coding efficiency, completeness and correctness. Develop test data and test routines to detect program errors and to test modules and systems. Conduct training for programmers and end users. Present related work at national and international conferences.

Minimum Departmental Qualifications
Fluent in C/C++ and Java Experience in Website development and the web interfacing of relational databases. Demonstrated ability to produce realistic programming project plans including milestones, function specifications and technical design.
Excellent verbal and written skills. The successful candidate will be asked to bring substantial samples of their coding and explain their design and implementation choices.

Desired Qualifications
Working knowledge in statistics and its application to biomedical research. Working experience with SQL, Java, Perl or equivalent scripting language. Knowledge in XML and its application. Experience converting or integrating relational and non-relational databases. Experience in Web Programming using Java Server Pages.

Master degree in computer science or professional certification in Oracle and Java preferred.

Minimum Qualifications
BS degree in a Computer related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic knowledge in statistics. Considerable progressively responsible programming experience in a high level language and in implementing data processing systems is necessary. General knowledge of computational methods, computer hardware and system maintenance is required.
Minimum 3 to 5 years experience.
