ABN AMRO opened its first banking branch in Shanghai in 1903 and we have been a leading European bank in this country for over a century. We employ over 450 people across all business units in mainland China, in three branches in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Beijing and three representative offices in Guangzhou, Tianjin and Wuhan.

The year-long Graduate Development Programme in China offers you structured development, as well as a clear insight into the way our business operates.

You will rotate across our local corporate and investment banking business locally. As you contribute to areas as diverse as M&A, Equity Capital Markets, Fixed Income and Structured Lending, you will gain broad banking knowledge, and will benefit from specific training to develop your professional, technical and personal skills.

At the end of the programme, most of the full time opportunities will be in Shanghai.

China Graduate Development Programme

The year-long China Graduate Development Programme offers you structured development through a series of job rotations and tailored training courses, enabling you to gain a clear insight into our growing business in China. Our two tracks give you the opportunity to choose and focus on the type of client segment you would like to specialise in - Corporate, Investment Banking and Markets or Consumer Client. On either programme, you’ll find dedicated support and commitment to develop your professional, technical and personal skills, giving you the best possible start in the world of banking. All roles offered at the end of the China Graduate Development Programme will be based in China.

Corporate, Investment Banking and Markets
On our Commercial Investment Banking and Markets track, you’ll rotate throughout our Commercial Client, Investment Banking, FX/Derivatives, Transaction Banking and Risk Management business units. The programme will give you a broad insight into the work of these various functions, allowing you to make an informed decision as to where best your skills and interests lie.

Consumer Client
On our Consumer Client Segment track, you will enjoy rotations through our Consumer Banking business across China. You’ll contribute to areas as diverse as Sales, Product Development, Client Engagement, Marketing, Strategic Planning and Business Banking. This will give you comprehensive knowledge of the booming consumer industry with a view to specialising in one of the functions on completing of the programme.

How to apply
Our online application system means you can amend, update and track your application through the process. It could take up to two hours to complete, so you'll need to allow yourself time and find somewhere quiet to fill it out.

Application process
Our application process will bring out the best in you and give you an insight into the role you're interested in, while enabling us to assess your ability and give you feedback on your strengths.

After initial screening, if we think you have what it takes we'll invite you to the first stage of our selection process. If you pass the reasoning test here you'll be invited to a first-stage competency interview.

After this, if you're successful you'll be invited to the second stage, which involves an interview with an experienced professional and an interview to test your responses to a number of hypothetical situations. Then you'll take on a case study involving written work, a one-to-one meeting with a 'client' and a group meeting. You'll also have the chance for an informal discussion with recent graduates and representatives from your chosen business area.
