ECM performance Engineering interns 1-2

IBM DB2 ECM SVT serves as the first customer of ECM products, testing the products as a system to find defects, validating the product functions on the current supported environments, and verifying the stability of the product when stressed and when run for long time periods. ECM SVT scope includes:
Product integration testing
Cross product and operating system levels testing
Cross platforms testing
Stress and Endurance testing
Customer specific scenario
From this year, SVT is extending its scope to help with Performance QA - to generate performance data from QA/'s wide use-case driven test and platform coverage, to identify and analyze worst problem areas, and to feed architecture/design level issues back to Performance Engineering. We are looking for 1-2 interns to do performance Engineering research.

Job Requirements (skills/experiences)
1) A thorough knowledge of UNIX ( AIX & Solaris mainly ), Microsoft Windows and at least one flavor of Linux, SuSE or Red Hat preferred.

Deep understanding a operating system, possessing skills like using sysadmin tools and various editors available on certain operating systems, operating systems permission, access control lists, install/uninstall versions of operating systems;
Attaching and configuring various storage subsystems, configuring storage with block sizes, RAID levels, configurations using Volume Managers either built in operating systems or third party, tuning of memory models for operating systems, understanding and tuning of TCP/IP stack on all operating systems.
Configurations of various services in Windows, registry settings ¨C using and manipulating to clear unsuccessful and/or partial installations of various products.
Also, deep technical skills in areas of gathering and recording performance data from every operating system.
Certain networking skills such as, understanding and configuring network routing tables, measuring network optimum throughput etc.
Advanced skills such as, installing HAL for Windows 2003 or High Availability such as HACMP, Sun Clustering, MSCS etc would be certainly an advantage.

2) Deep technical understanding of Databases, DB2 and/or Oracle.
Monitoring database performance, resources being used by database, buffer pools used by the databases, latch contentions, deadlock issues, index usage and monitoring, shared memory segment usage, etc.
Appropriate tablespace layout to exploit the I/O subsystems designed earlier.
Knowledge of effective tracing for both databases are a key component during debugging and finding bottlenecks in the application and/or database itself.
A deep technical understanding of how each database optimizer functions, be able to look for inefficient SQL statements and tune them, and be able to advise on correct indexes to be created and/or used.
Backup and Restore techniques with both database.

3) Technical skills in the areas of IBM WebSphere Application Server
Creating/deploying EAR/WAR files
Configuring various pools ¨C database connection pool, thread pool , session pool , container pool, etc.
Determining correct JVM heap sizes, garbage collection frequencies/contentions
Heap/thread dump collection and/or analysis.
Also experience with IBM WebSphere in HA environment would be a plus.

4) Technical background in programming
At the code level, have a good knowledge of C++ and Java as well as know how to trace each language for function call counts, heap allocations, garbage collection (in Java), etc.
A deep knowledge is required in scripting skills. Scripting is used for developing test infrastructure. The SVT tester should be well versed in Shell Scripting, Windows Batch file programming, Windows Host scripting, Cross platform scripting languages such as Perl , Python.

5) Knowledge of system testing tools like the Rational testing framework, STAF/STAX, or Load Runner would be a huge bonus.

Qualifications(Education/Major/Certificates)
- Master degree major in Computer Science or related ones.
- Experienced software professional with over 2 years of technical experience in software testing/development.
- Excellent communication skill.
- Excellent written/spoken English
- Self-motivated team player
- Quick learner
